He keeps as still as he can as the sleep dissipates from his body. You’re warm against him, head pillowed on his shoulder. You’re asleep on your tummy, soft breath fanning across his skin whenever you breathe out. It strikes him then, in this moment, that he doesn’t think he’s ever been this content in his life. He has waited for the opportunity to fall asleep with you clutched as close to him as possible for years. He knows he can’t ask for the opportunity in the moments when he knows he only has one job to do, and when he has that one night with you, he doesn’t want to close his eyes and risk wasting the precious time you have together.
